Savvy vs. Splurge: Alexander Wang Rocco studded duffle bag vs. Dorothy Perkins bag

March 26, 2013

If you asked me five years ago whether I would wear studs in my clothing or accessories, I would have thought “Don’t those belong on a motorcycle jacket or something?”

But ask me today if I’d wear studs and I would say “Of course!”

Part of my fascination with studs came about when I started paying attention to Alexander Wang a bit more. Ā Alexander Wang clothing and accessories undisputedly give off a vibe of downtown cool.

One of Ā Alexander Wang’s standout creations (now one of his signatures) is the subtlety studded Rocco bag. Ā It is compact and functional, but has unexpected studs on the bottom of the bag. Ā I’ve thought about getting one for a while but was always a little worried about the weight of the bag. Ā The Rocco now comes in a slightly smaller size and the studs have varied from brass to rose gold to lucite. Ā I’ll still definitely think about this bag, but it is nice to know there are similar studded bags as well (the Eros studded tote is only $65 and a complete copy in the saddle color but is sold out for now).

So would be you be savvy or splurge on a studded duffle bag?

HaHa! My answer would’ve been the same as yours! The savvy bag looks better than the splurge. I’m thinking about purchasing some spiked sandals šŸ™‚

Ooh get the spiked sandals! I bet they would look amazing on you!

Oh my – I think I just fell in love with the Alexander Wang handbag. I do like the style of the cheaper bag but the leather in Wang offering looks so soft and buttery!

The leather in the Alexander Wang actually is pretty nice. I bet you would like the different color studs – it has come in black, brass, rose gold, and lucite!

I like them both!! The savvy bag does have a bot more detail though, so lovely xx

I actually think I prefer the dorothy Perkins bag! A Fine Balance

    I like the Splurge bag more – just in a different color {Rosie Huntington-Whiteley has a gray/taupe shade that I love}. I guess I’m just not one for studs… :/

I JUST posted this gray shade on my Facebook page. It is such a beautiful neutral color! Maybe you’d like it more with the rose gold or lucite studs?

I actually like the “savvy” bag better, but would probably want to feel it in person. There is something about a real leather bag that is just so luxe!

i like the splurge! i always love these posts. however, it verifies that i have expensive taste all the time!

    • Chic 'n Cheap Living March 26, 2013 at 11:51

Haha, we both have expensive taste!

I must stay that the Dorothy Perkins makes a statement too… I love studs if “dosed” like in these two bags, while I’ve seen a lot of items covered with an exaggerated amount of sparkly metal! Love

I like the cheaper version this time!

  • Krysten March 26, 2013 at 18:16

Gotta say I’d be a big spender on this one.

People say that when I look at two things, I always pick the most expensive one – but this time I will go savvy – I really loved the style!

I actually quite like the style of the Dorothy Perkins bag – But I’d rather have a leather bag over a plastic bag any day.

You are so right Jella. I love the Alexander Wang duffle too, especially in the brighter colors and with different colored studs. I hear the smaller version is at least lighter and still cute!
