Comme des Garçons, French for “like boys”, is a Japanese fashion label created and maintained by Rei Kawakubo. I’ve always been fascinated with the label because it has such a cult following and is one of the few successful Asian brands. They started out using (and still use) a lot of black and distressed fabrics. Currently, they have a range of lines from Junya Watanabe Comme des Garçons Man (menswear) to Tricot Comme des Garçons (women’s knitwear) and Comme des Garçons Edited (accessories).
Here are some of my favorites across their current collections. I like the mix of patterns, textures, and basic colors with a little edge. I find myself drawn to the first double breasted jacket with different textures and lengths. I think Mr. Spend ‘n Chomp would like the contrasting patterns and subtle skull motifs on their menswear line too.
Comme des Garçons (via Club 21) is opening At Hilton Singapore 02-39/40 (tel: +65 6304 1362) Jan 31 and I’m excited to stop by.
What do you think of Comme des Garçons?

i go back and forth w/ what i think about cutesy designs on adult women. I don’t think I’m loving the bear designs.
Not really my style, but I appreciate what the designer is doing. And I’m intrigued by the white women’s suit with the black stripe. Cool find!
I’ve followed this line for years – there was a comme des garcons store in soho when I used to live there. While usually a little extreme for me, there are always some pieces I adore – love Rei’s very architectonic design.
Very inventive looks!
Love these runway selections!

I’m not sure if I can pull of the look, but it is super cute!
I’ve always been a fan too. And I’m just loving those tees!
they do mix prints & textures quite well. i haven’t seen the bear shirts, but love ‘play’ by comme des garcons because of the heart.
oh they are very unique, indeed. thanks for sharing the photos from the show!
Oh to Be a Muse
Seems interesting (and artistic) but do not think it is for me!

i think i like the tees best! so cute!
Those t-shirts are super cute!
OMG!!! those t – shirs are so amazing ..
I love how clean and hard cut these designs are for this collection. It seems androgynous, because it is a bit hard to distinguish the menswear from the womens…but I like that. Sort of like modern art for fashion. 😉
I respect the talent but the line has never really been my style.
I love the gingham cuffed pants- how cool is that- I also like the stripped black and white shirt.
Totally cool and fun! Did i tell you that i really LOVE your new header? XX
Such a fun and playful look! Love all the pieces! xoxo, Annemarie
I am a fan of their designs. You are right. They do have a cult following. I went to their store in London and was bowled over by their designs. Thanks for sharing.
I really love Comme des Garcons, but you know, I always assumed it was a french label- for obvious reasons.
Thanks for the clarification.
ME likey! ha
Fun fashion and I just love pandas.
great graphic tee’s. if only they’d put them out in owls–which i’m totally addicted to! 🙂 Have a great weekend. Want to follow each other?
