I want to welcome blogger buddy Legally Married and thank her for guest posting. She has a funny blog about life as a law school wife and frequently brings a smile to my face. She talks about finding her decorating style today – enjoy!

We’re still in the process of working on our house and I find myself thinking a lot about interior design (at least, when I’m not watching reruns of Psych or obsessively looking things up on Wikipedia).

How do we choose the colors and styles that appeal to us? My parents have a Victorian decorating style but my mom is loud and outspoken. Do you think it’s common to surround yourself in your home with the things you WANT to be? Maybe my mom wants a life that’s a little more pastoral, a little more romantic? Maybe this is the kind of life she’s been secretly longing for while she’s been working and raising four daughters?
I would classify myself, on the other hand, as being more reserved, more subdued and a little daydreamy-ier. And most certainly grounded here in my little city – working away. Yet my house is decorated in warm, rich colors and textures with hints of Old World styling and glamour – maybe more symbolic of what I’d like to be: bold, vibrant and glowing.
What are your thoughts on your personal style? Is it who you are, who you hope to be, or a complementary foil to your personality?
Here are a few rooms that have inspired me in my decorating, although as a sole-breadwinner law school wife, I’m far from achieving these levels of grandeur and put-togetherness. I would love to hear what inspires you!
P.S. If you’re not sure what styles you love, you may want to try out this fun online What’s Your Style? Quiz.
What a lovely girl. Thanks for the introduction. I adore the second picture. And I love the title of her blog, too. Have a nice day;-)

HI LOVAH’ MISSSSSSEEEEDDDDDD u to pieces!!!!! – my decor style DEF fits my personality – but i’m a Gemini – so if u know about Gemini’s we’re kinda’ all over but right on track – follow? – but whenever someone new comes to me house – they all say “OK THIS IS SO ERIKA”
Great inspiration! I’ll definitely need to take the quiz as I have no idea how to describe my style. Right now, our apartment is “comfy” with no real cohesive elements to tie it together. We’re working on it 🙂
the first room is great!

YAY What a fun quiz!!! I think I’ll be somthing along the line on County Chic!
mine is clean lines with tons of color… a little inspired in scandinavian design!
I love the varying colours and textures in the first photo. Burnt orange is a favourite of mine in interior decor. I’m often inspired by hotels and resorts – even if it’s just through looking at photos online.

Love these! I can’t wait to decorate my own place. x hivenn
I’m always drawn to things I’m not. I LOVE decor that puts it’s roots in places around the globe, but my husband on the other hand, doesn’t normally care for that look. So our home style, is a lot more reserved then I would probably go on my own. That said, I like my house to have a very “put together” look, I think because I tend to think everyone will think my life is put together if my house is. Silly thinking, right? Ah well, it’s nice to have a clean/nice looking house anyway. 🙂
loving the looks of these rooms. My style is definitely french country farm house meets pottery barn when it comes to decorating :0)

I love her style! I agree with MosaMuse above; the first room is fantastic! xx
Great post! My style is more on the modern/contemporary side…I love white with bold prints and accents. xo
I love the grandeur- look!
Great post! I’m still trying to figure out what my style is… I know it’s mostly traditional/classic, but there’s more to it than that.
