What are your favorite pieces in your home? Are they among your more luxurious possessions? When I think of luxury, I think of being in a state of refinement and elegance. My favorite objects are from a mix of independent artists, well known designers, and mass market retailers. An item doesn’t have to cost a lot to look luxurious! I like an object if it makes me smile and evokes a bit of my personality as well. I’m also mildly obsessed with home decor. But I know it can get out of hand so I try to pick my pieces carefully. Our home is still a work in progress, but I’ve incorporated touches that makes it feel luxurious to us. How do you make your home more luxurious?
5 ways to make your home more luxurious
1. Fresh (or fresh looking!) flowers
I try to get fresh flowers almost weekly. I’m lucky to have access to affordable and gorgeous orchids upon discovering a local flower seller. In addition, I’ll stop by and grab brightly colored roses from the florist at our local mall. It’s a small touch that brings a bit of beauty and brightness. There are now fabulous silk flowers as well for a look that lasts more than a week!
2. Personal touches like pictures
We have a small gallery wall of our wedding pictures and a few personal mementoes. I framed a few letters and collectible stamps from my mother-in-law when we collected her belongings a few years ago. It’s a nice vintage touch and remembrance of her hobbies. I also framed a mix of digital prints and watercolors and scatter them about the house. West Elm has great frames and I have a few Cozamia prints, but I’m always adding to my art collection.

3. Candles
My love for candles also developed recently. Previously, I never understood the allure of luxury candles. But some candles have such truly wonderful smells and gorgeous reusable jars. As a result, I really do feel like lighting a wonderful candle(s) really changes the mood and ambiance. It can be pricey, but is a lovely little luxury. Of course I try to get mine, like these Fresh Candles, on sale!
4. Consistent colors
I have a few color tones in my home now – gray, blue, and pink (in the little one’s room). The bedrooms tend to be lighter and brighter. But I like to fill the living room with black and white/cream pieces set off with gold or sometimes silver accents. I like accent pieces from Pottery Barn – how cute is this first year frame? I like an elegant and understated look for our common areas. We are refinishing a lovely table now and I can’t wait to find a few fun chairs for it!
5. Statement accent pieces
I’ve already spoken about my love for trays a few times. They are such a lovely way to organize your baubles or food. Mostly, I like how they contain everything in one place. I stalked this vintage Lanvin tray on eBay for months (see this post on how to create saved searches). I also love using my candle sticks as jewelry stands and using candles and other pieces of decor to accent a room.
This Tumor Chisato bowl holds a few odds and ends together while doubling as decor.
I am a huge fan of candles and they are in every room! Love good accent pieces, too.
I am looking forward to decorate our new home that will be completed end of June. We’ll probably call in a designer to help with our living room though, I’m not sure if I have the creative flair to decorate myself. LOL!
I do believe in candles. I have some pictures I want to get up by the end of the year. Those added touches really do make a difference. Love the colors in your home.

I definitely have consistent colors and candles all over. And I like to get fresh flowers twice a month (although I wish I could get them more often). Still working on more statement accent pieces.
I love candles and fresh flowers 🙂
